چکیده

Introduction Dose calculation of tumor and surrounding tissues is essential during prostate brachytherapy. Three radioisotopes, namely, 125 I, 103 Pd, and 131 Cs, are extensively used in this method. In this study, we aimed to calculate the received doses by the prostate and critical organs using the aforementioned radioactive seeds and to investigate the effect of scattering contribution for the legs on dose calculations. Materials and Methods The doses to organs of interest were calculated using MCNPX code and ORNL (Oak Ridge National Laboratory) phantom. Results Doses to the prostate as a source of radiation for 125 I, 103 Pd, and 131 Cs were approximately 108.9, 97.7, and 81.5 Gy, respectively. Bladder, sigmoid colon, and testes received higher doses than other organs due to proximity to the prostate. Differences between the doses when tallying with the legs intact and with the legs voided were significant for testes, sigmoid colon contents, and sigmoid colon wall because of their proximity to the prostate. There was also a good consistency between our results and the data published by Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine for the prostate. Conclusion Scattering from leg region had a significant effect on doses to testes, sigmoid colon contents, and sigmoid colon wall in the pelvic region, and prostate and the other organs were unaffected. Brachytherapy treatment plans using 131 Cs seeds allow for better sparing of critical tissues, with a comparable number of, or fewer, seeds required, compared to 125 I seeds.

Introduction: The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the variations in delivered dose to the bladder, rectum, and femoral heads of prostate cancer patients during a course of treatment by image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT). Materials and Methods: Overall, 15 patients with prostate cancer were selected and. Each week, for each patient five consecutive cone beam computed tomograph...

تخمین دز پروستات و اندام های مجاور آن در حین براکی تراپی پروستات و بررسی پراکندگی بر میزان دز با استفاده از کد MCNP4C

In regard with increasing use of brachytherapy for treatment of cancer, especially prostate cancer, dosimetry of the organs surrounding prostate is necessary. The received dose by prostate is relatively high and the healthy organs surrounding prostate are potentially at a risk of high dose too. In this paper, the doses delivered to the prostate and organs of interest were calculated by MCNP4C c...

ارزیابی دز رسیده به پروستات و چند اندام حساس در براکی تراپی پروستات با استفاده از کد مونت کارلو در سه رادیوایزوتوپ131Cs ، 103Pd و 125I

Using the Monte Carlo N-Particle computer code (MCNP), doses were calculated for organs of interest such as the stomach, prostate, liver, and kidneys while patients were undergoing prostate brachytherapy. This research is important because the doses delivered to the prostate are extremely high and the organs near the prostate are potentially at risk of receiving high doses of radiation, ...
